Mindfulness-Based Practices
Mindfulness has been described as the practice of paying attention to present moment experience, on purpose and without judgement. Based on 2500 year-old meditation practices, mindfulness has been the subject of both basic and clinical research for many years. There is an abundance of evidence showing that the regular practice of mindfulness reduces stress and even changes stress-related structures in the brain.
I took my first Vipassana class (mindfulness meditation) in the late 1980’s while living a rather stressful life in New York City. Since that time, I’ve had training in the following evidence-based practices:
In addition to teaching Mindfulness for Coaches as part of the Professional Coach Training Program at Duquesne University, I also developed and taught Mindful Leadership, a graduate-level course in the School of Leadership at Duquesne.
